Bullish news - Twitter users on Apple’s IOS will now be able to connect third-party tipping services to their profile, which will include the ability to link both Bitcoin and Lightning Network addresses! Strike is a payments application built on the Bitcoin Lightning Network that allows people to instantly and freely send and receive Bitcoin globally. Right now Strike is only available to people in El Salvador and the U.S. Unfortunately, Australian users won’t be able to utilise Bitcoin tips until Strike is rolled out here, but it does show that the Bitcoin network continues to grow and a collaboration with one of the world's largest social networks, Twitter, is exciting.
HOW DOES IT WORK?
You can confirm if an account has turned on Tips if you see this icon next to the Follow button on their profile page. Tap the icon, and you’ll see a list of payment services or platforms that the account has enabled.
Once you tap the service you want to use, you’ll be taken off Twitter to the selected app to send funds. Twitter takes no percentage of tipping proceeds.
ADDING YOUR BITCOIN ADDRESS TO TIPS
People in the eligible markets (currently the U.S and El Salvador) will have to sign up for a Strike account and add their Strike username to receive Bitcoin tips over the Lightning Network. You can use any Bitcoin Lightning wallet to send tips to someone’s Strike account.
